"Over the past few months, we've seen variants of ransomware that encrypt data on Linux server hard drives and demand ransoms," he says. This is a particularly serious threat to the healthcare sector, which uses Linux servers extensively, he adds.
To fight ransomware, Lynch says organizations need to devote far more resources to keeping all systems up to date. In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at the recent Healthcare Security Summit in New York, he also:
- Describes endpoint protection strategies;
- Emphasizes the need for user education about malware threats;
- Advocates a layered approach to security.
Lynch is senior sales director, Eastern U.S. and Eastern Canada, at the security firm Bitdefender.
