Behavioral Analytics and the Insider Threat

CA's Mark McGovern on How Organizations Are Using Mature Solutions to Nab Rogue Insiders
Behavioral Analytics and the Insider Threat

Behavioral analytics have taken the fast lane from emerging tech to mature practice. And Mark McGovern of CA Technologies says the technology is being deployed in innovative ways to help detect insider threats.

What impresses McGovern most is how quickly behavioral analytics have made the leap from theory to practice.

"The key elements that have made behavioral analytics 1) move so fast, and 2) become something so important to security is that the focus has been not on the technology itself, but on the value it provides the enterprise," McGovern says.

In an interview about behavioral analytics, McGovern discusses:

  • The evolution of the technology;
  • Why it's different from other "hot" tech;
  • How behavioral analytics help organizations improve insider threat defenses.

McGovern is vice president of product management for CA Technologies. He previously founded and served as the CEO of Mobile System 7, acquired by CA Technologies in 2016. He also was vice president of technology for venture capital firm In-Q-Tel, director of technology for software security firm Cigital and an engineer at the Central Intelligence Agency.
