Lisa R. Lifshitz is a partner in Torkin Manes' Business Law Group, specializing in the areas of information technology and business law and the leader of the firm's Technology, Privacy & Data Management Group and Emerging Technology Group. With particular expertise in preparing and negotiating complex technology agreements, including cloud computing agreements, she provides technology-related advice on financings and acquisitions, including export control on cross-border deals and provides guidance on IoT, AI/smart contracts, blockchain and open source legal matters. Lifshitz also practices in the area of privacy and information management, advising both Canadian and international clients on compliance with Canadian privacy and cybersecurity requirements. She routinely advises clients on trans-border data transfers, data breach management, privacy compliance in corporate transactions and negotiations, and privacy due diligence in connection with information technology transactions, and advises on compliance relating to Canada's anti-spam legislation. In the area of cybersecurity, Lisa provides legal advice on cybersecurity compliance, due diligence, incident preparedness and response and cybersecurity mitigation strategies. Lifshitz was the co-leader of the American Bar Association's Cybersecurity Legal Task Force in the preparation of a model Vendor Contracting Cybersecurity Checklist at the request of the US Treasury Department.
